Do clothes last longer if dry cleaned?

We hear a lot of different opinions on dry cleaning. Sometimes we wonder if it's worth the cost or not? Other times we just can't be bothered. There are also a lot of talks about environmental friendliness of the products used in the dry cleaning process.

Nowadays washing our clothes has become much easier with the invention of washing machines but washing machines can wear down the fibers in our clothes and ruin them if used ineffectively.

Dry cleaning, on the other hand, involves a solvent that is easy on the fabric, and if green earth cleaning system is used, it is environmentally friendly as well.

There are certain garments that must be only dry cleaned as instructed.

And also how often is it that some item gets ruined in the washing machine in comparison to dry cleaning. At least you can get some sort of compensation from the dry cleaners!
